Summer Reading

7th Grade Honors ELA Summer Reading

Students enrolled in 7th Grade Honors English Language Arts (ELA) will study two novels during the first marking period. Students are expected to have read both books over the summer and have taken notes, particularly paying close attention to how S.E. Hinton creates unique characters. Think about how a writer might create different characters that seem real and rich with personality and individualization. Students who are ready to take honors level ELA classes will come to school with both school books read and notes on characterization taken.

8th Grade Honors ELA Summer Reading

Students enrolled in 8th Grade Honors English Language Arts (ELA) will study Holocaust literature by reading the novel ,The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Students are expected to read the novel over the summer and have taken notes, particularly paying attention to how Markus Zusak uses figurative language as a communication tool.  In this novel the writer's use of words is creative and different, take note on how this changes the experience of reading. Students who are ready to take honors level ELA classes will come to school with the novel read and notes on figurative language taken.
